The UK Commission for Employment and
Skills
The UK Commission aims to raise UK prosperity and
opportunity by improving employment and skills.
Our ambition is to benefit employers, individuals and
government by advising how improved employment and skills systems
can help the UK become a world-class leader in productivity, in
employment and in having a fair and inclusive society: all this in
the context of a fast-changing global economy.
Ambition 2020: Word Class Skills and Jobs for
the UK
We are living in unprecedented times. After 15 years'
economic growth, today's recession will have a lasting impact on
the economic and social fabric of the UK. To secure economic
renewal – to emerge from the recession stronger, more adaptable,
more competitive – will require bold and concerted action.
Our strategy must focus not only on how survive the recession but
on how to achieve world-class standing in employment, productivity
and skills in the years ahead.
To succeed, we must set our sights high. We
believe we must reach the upper quartile of the OECD countries –
that is, be in the top eight performing nations in the world – by
2020.
Our strategic plan and business plans show how we intend to
help this ambition become a reality.
