Simon Perryman

Executive Director

Simon is an Executive Director at the UK Commission, responsible for the delivery of the largest of the Commission’s four priority outcomes, to “secure more collective action by employers on skills through stronger sectors and local networks.” This includes our £100m portfolio of investment which is building employer led skills programmes and delivery and repositioning and promoting Investors in People as a key business improvement tool.

He is also responsible, as the lead Director for Scotland, for managing our strategic relationship with the Scottish Government and for developing the International strategy of the Commission.

Simon previously worked at the Sector Skills Development Agency and, before that, held a number of senior roles in government relating to skills, small business development and regional development.

This included running the Enterprise Allowance Scheme, the creation of Business Link, the management of Training and Enterprise Councils, the launch of the Learning and Skills Councils and Regional Development Agency in Yorkshire and Humberside and setting up Sector Skills Councils for the Department for Employment and Skills.

Simon started his career working as a training adviser for the Engineering Industry Training Board in Kent where he specialised in management development work. He was also the Management Training Manager at the Ranmoor Hall Training Centre and worked on the implementation of a distance learning programme called ‘Open Tech’, before moving into policy work in government.

Simon is a graduate of Bradford University, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and lives in Sheffield.
