The Growth and Innovation Fund (GIF) is currently supporting 37 employer-led projects aimed at levering in greater investment in the skills our economy needs to fulfil its growth potential.  Public investment in this portfolio of projects totals £41m which has been more than matched by £55m of investment by employers.

GIF phases

Applications to the Growth and Innovation Fund are reviewed periodically by the Growth and Innovation Fund Board, who meet to make decisions on which projects to support.

January 2013
November 2012
August 2012

The Board agreed to invest in 9 proposals subject to full due diligence and agreement on final investment levels. The Board also committed funding and/or support to 10 organisations to develop their proposals from the outline stage to a full proposal.

March 2012

The Board agreed to invest in two proposals subject to full due diligence and agreement on costs. The Board also committed funding and/or support to 15 organisations to develop their proposals from the outline stage to a full proposal.

GIF aligned with Employer Ownership Pilot

We have now aligned the fund alongside the Employer Ownership of Skills Pilot, so that potential applicants will be able to engage with a single process to put forward integrated proposals, rather than having to apply separately to both funds.

The aim is to encourage employers to bring forward powerful, integrated, proposals for industrial partnerships to take wider responsibility for skills development in a place or sector.  As well as covering the cost of training places (as supported by the first round of Employer Ownership Pilot), proposals could include investment in underpinning arrangements to ensure skills needs are better met, such as new employer networks, skills frameworks and training delivery mechanisms (as supported by GIF).
