Simplification: Final Assessment
The Simplification Project report “Hiding the Wiring: Final Assessment of Progress on Implementing the Recommendations in Simplification of Skills in England” is now available.
The report examines the progress made into the implementation of the recommendations proposed in the UK Commission’s initial report into Simplification published in October 2008.
Findings were informed by interviews with over 500 representatives from all areas of the skills system and research amongst almost 3000 employers. We conducted two day visits to each of the English regions to understand how the system was working in practice, and also visited Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to understand how their skills systems.
The report contains three main messages: that employers want to see long term certainty in the system with no unnecessary tinkering or micromanagement; that unnecessary processes should be removed from the system so that it can deliver more for less; and that new brands and initiatives should not be introduced.
