Our Team
- Mike was previously Director of Development (2007-08), Strategy and Research (2004-07) and Policy and Research (2002-04) at the Sector Skills Development Agency. Before that, he was the Founding Director of the Policy Research Institute and Professor of Public Policy at Leeds Metropolitan University from 1988-2002.
- Lesley Giles is currently Deputy Director for Research and Policy at the UK Commission for Employment and Skills. She manages a team providing research and policy analysis to inform the work programme of the UK Commission and to ensure policy development on UK skills, employment and workforce performance more generally is evidence based.
- Vicki has worked in the Research and Policy team at the UK Commission for Employment and Skills since its launch in April 2008. She has over 12 years of experience in social research, working on a range of projects examining skills and employment issues. Prior to joining the UK Commission, Vicki was a Senior Research Adviser at the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA), from June 2004.
- Caroline joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in June 2010 as a Research Manager. She has significant experience in social research in government, focusing on the labour market, small business and adult learning and skills.
- Zoey joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in July 2010 from a sector skills council where she was a Senior Researcher specialising in research and evaluation of workforce development needs and interventions across the justice sector. Prior to this Zoey worked at Ecotec Research & Consulting as a Research Manager with expertise in employment and welfare, skills and equality research.
- Jo joined the team in April 2010 and will be supporting the team through co-ordination of projects, systems and processes.
- Paul joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills as a Research Manager in July 2010. Prior to this he worked as a Research Manager at a not-for-profit organisation, CFE (Research & Consulting), specialising in employment and skills research and policy.
- Katherine Chapman joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in August 2009. Previously, Katherine was Head of Skills and before that Research Manager at Policy Connect, a policy and network organisation with parliamentary links.
- Susannah joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in July 2009. Prior to this she worked for two years as a researcher at The Work Foundation, leading research projects into business perceptions of job quality, and employer demand for skills.
- Stephen joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in May 2010 as a Policy Analyst. Prior to joining the UK Commission, Stephen worked for the National Audit Office (NAO) conducting value for money studies in their Communities, Regeneration and the Regions team; including assessments of the Regional Development Agencies.
- Debra joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in June 2010. Previously, she was a Principal Research Manager and before that a Senior Research Officer for AQA and more recently a Senior Consultant with GHK Consulting working in the areas of qualifications, education and skills.
- Paul joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in March 2009 from Ecotec Research and Consulting where he was a Senior Consultant specialising in the fields of employment, labour markets and equality.
- Joining the UK Commission on 1st April 2008, Richard worked previously for the SSDA for four years as a Senior and Principal Research Adviser.
- Abigail joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in October 2008. Prior to this she worked for nine years, for the Wise Group, a leading social enterprise that delivers employment, community regeneration and sustainability services across Scotland and the North East of England.
- Peter joined the Research and Policy Team in June 2010, having previously worked for the UK Commission since September 2009, with a remit to conduct the evaluation of the UK Vocational Qualifications Reform Programme.
- Before she joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in February 2009, Catherine was working as a library officer on the DCSF-funded Book Ahead Project, based at Sheffield City Council.
- Rebecca joined the Research and Policy team in May 2010. Rebecca has previously worked within the Strategy and Performance Directorate on a project exploring ways to maximise the impact of the employer voice on the employment and skills system.
- Genna has worked as a Research Manager at the UK Commission for Employment and Skills since August 2008 and is now Senior Research Manager. Prior to joining the UK Commission Genna worked as a Senior Social Research Officer at the Office for National Statistics working within the Social and Vital Statistics Division.
- Ken became a permanent member of staff in April 2010, following a six month internship in Research and Policy. A politics BA from the University of Leeds, he has previously worked as a campaigner for Oxfam and on NHS research projects for the University of Leeds.
- Aoife joined UKCES in July 2010 from SQW Consulting, where she was a senior consultant specialising in education and skills.
- Hannah joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in June 2010 as Research Manager. Previously Hannah worked as a Research and Projects Adviser at Standards for England a non-departmental public body responsible for promoting high ethical standards in local democracy, leading projects on ethics, governance and partnerships.
- Caroline joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in June 2010 on a 12 month secondment from People 1st, the Sector Skills Council for the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism industries.
- Rachel joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in May 2010.
- Katerina joined the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in September 2008. Previously, she worked as a researcher on the Work Foundation's Knowledge Economy Programme, leading the globalisation strand of the programme
- Mark was previously Head of Research (2007-08) at the Sector Skills Development Agency. Before that he was a self-employed economic researcher specialising in the operation of labour markets
- Carol has worked as a Senior Research Manager at the UK Commission for Employment and Skills since its launch in April 2008 and is now Head of Research.
