People 1st: Increasing business investment in skills and reducing wasted public expenditure

This People 1st project will strengthen the links between pre employment training programmes and apprenticeships to help individuals progress from unemployed into higher skilled and management roles.
The proposal (including the development of higher level Apprenticeships) has five strands of activity:
i. Embedding apprenticeships in development pathways;
ii. Test and rollout innovative delivery methods;
iii. Introduce a voluntary tracking system;
iv. Raise awareness and make the case for apprenticeships
v. Introduce an employer staff secondment programme
Return on Investment
- Apprenticeship starts to increase from 23,000 p.a. to 30,000 ( every 1,000 not claiming benefits saves £8m pa on benefits)
- Apprenticeship completions in hospitality increase from 56% to 70% saving £37m in wasted
public expenditure
