Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) - statistics and surveys
We aim to provide outstanding LMI that helps businesses and people make the best choices for them. Critical to this is the collection of robust, representative data and its effective translation into helpful, informative outputs. Our LMI programme consists of three core elements: overarching analysis; underpinning data; and activity to coordinate and develop the wider LMI system.
Overarching analysis
This analysis examines the bigger picture on employment and skills in the UK: Ambition 2020 assesses the UK’s performance on a global scale; and the National Strategic Skills Audit provides insight and foresight about the UK’s future skills needs.
Provision of underpinning data
The UK Commission manages large scale data sources including the UK Employer Skills Survey, the Employer Perspectives Survey and Working Futures that underpin our overarching analysis and much of our wider research and strategic activity. Through the Almanac we seek to enhance access to this LMI. Further access is also available through our Data section
LMI system: co-ordination and development
The UK Commission works with a range of partner organisations in the development and deployment of LMI and seeks to contribute to the wider development of coordinated and better quality intelligence. Thinkpieces from some of the UK’s leading experts develop ideas on how to improve LMI. The LMI Common Framework provided a clear guide for Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) on what is required in the development of sectoral LMI.
