This project is central to the UK Commission’s ambition to transform the UK’s approach to investing in the skills of our people. It outlines the performance challenges faced in the health and social care sector, the ‘real-life’ skills solutions implemented by leading and successful businesses to overcome them, and the benefits from doing so
The Health and Social Care sector is fundamental to the success of the economy. The sector is a major employer of almost 4 million people, many of which are highly skilled. Almost 1.7 million job openings are expected over the period to 2020. It also makes a vital contribution to all other aspects of the economy and society by creating a healthy and productive workforce and by caring for the aging and the vulnerable.
However, the sector faces a number of performance challenges which must be overcome if it is to realise its potential.
