Published: March 2013

The briefing, prepared by Andrew McCoshan, with submissions from Jim Hillage (Institute for Employment Studies) and edited by UKCES staff, provides a detailed outline of the current vocational system in England and notes the recent policy developments.

The OECD project, Skills Beyond School, will build upon the success of their previous review, Learning for Jobs, and focus on higher vocational skills. As a participating country, relevant bodies in England will be able to use the international comparison to recognise both strengths and challenges of the English system and consider the various policy paths followed by different OECD countries. The England review is expected to be published in Autumn 2013 and will be followed by a comparative report of all the participating countries.
