Progress into and on in employment

This programme of work offers an evidence base on the journey of individuals as they enter and advance in employment. This work covers the acquisition of low, intermediate and high level skills.

Raising Employee Demand for Skills
Much of this work is underpinned by the Employee Demand Project, which sought to understand why many employed people do not engage in learning and to explore the policy implications of this evidence.

Two further studies build directly on this work, to further explore ways in which low skilled employees and unemployed people can be supported through learning and skills:

A wider body of research provides additional intelligence in understanding the barriers and potential solutions to increasing individual participation and investment in skills and employment.

A series of five briefings papers with a focus on employability and skills in a changing economy. Each paper explores the challenges and opportunities for a different equality theme or group.

The UK Commission also participates in research with partner organisations that contributes to this agenda including research on Skills, Poverty and Inequality with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (the Future Labour Markets programme).
