Career Hack: LMI for All app contest
The UK Commission this month launched Career Hack, a competition which calls on developers from across the globe to help present LMI in innovative and engaging ways to help people make better and more informed choices about their careers, and win a share in a £20,000 prize fund in the process.
Career Hack, run by the UK Commission asks developers to create apps using the LMI for All data portal and is open until February 2014.
In May this year the UK Commission released the first pilot version of LMI for All, an online data portal which brings together existing labour market information including national data on employment, skills and future job market projections. The data portal makes it easier for developers to create apps and websites which will help individuals and businesses make informed decisions about careers and learning options.
The Career Hack challenge is open to anyone and has a first prize of £10,000. There is a runner up prize of £5,000 and a further £5,000 prize for entries by students aged 16-24 who are engaged in Further Education.
A specific category of the competition is open to students aged 16-24, giving the opportunity for the tech-leaders of tomorrow to showcase their talents and skills. The competition will embrace and encourage the emerging digital skills that will form a crucial part of expected growth in the UK over the coming years.
LMI for All data is already being utilised in a variety of ways by a number of websites including iCould and RCU. It is hoped that the Career Hack contest will open the resource up to creative individuals from around the world, uncovering new and innovative ways to use the data to help individuals map out their future career.
To enter the competition you may participate as an individual or as a team and you will need to be capable of developing a workable app using LMI for All data. All entries must be submitted with a brief YouTube video demonstrating how the app works. For more detail please visit the contest website at http://careerhack.appchallenge.net
