Asset Skills: Increasing Employer Investment in Higher level skills

Asset skills is looking to increase employer investment in and the take up of higher level skills programmes across the cleaning and housing sector.
This investment will develop professional/graduate traineeships; a sector focused ‘Work Experience Week’ for students; a ‘World of Work’ week for classroom tutors to go into workplaces; a ‘gold standard’ in work experience through customised work based learning programmes with employers; local employers and higher level skills provider networks, and; a brokerage service to encourage take up of higher level skills programmes across the sector.
Return on Investment
- HE/Employer networks facilitating employer involvement in curriculum development. Participation by 60 employers/ 20 HEIs will lead to greater alignment between the skills of graduates and the needs of employers reducing on-going training costs
- 2 ‘World of Work’ weeks with 200 student participants
- A new traineeship model with 50 participants
- 50 work placements for trainees
- 50 student ambassadors for the sector
The project will act as a catalyst for further activities as described in each of the last four bullet points and is expected to lead to a tenfold increase in the number of participants over a five year period. The long term return on social investment produced by this project is expected to be in the order of £10 million.
