Since the UK Commission took over strategic ownership of the Investors in People (IiP) Standard, a programme of evaluation was developed to inform continued improvement of IiP design and delivery. This survey of 1,000 accredited employers focuses on assessing the effectiveness of the accreditation process and any impact associated with IiP accreditation.
Some of the findings from the report include:
- The majority of employers (82%) had developed or introduced at least one policy or practice in order to achieve IiP. IiP had an impact on helping organisations implement the following:
– 37% of employers had developed or introduced processes for assessing management effectiveness
– 35% of employers had developed or introduced training plans
– 34% of employers developed or introduced processes for consulting staff about change.
- Overall, seven in ten employers (71%) reported some business improvement had taken place within their organisation at least in part as a result of IiP
- In relation to specific improvements following accreditation, more employers saw impact in the ability of staff to do their jobs (57%), in product and service quality (54%) and in the productivity of their workforce (53%)
- 41% of employers saw an improvement in staff commitment, 85% of which attributed this at least in part to IiP. Similarly, 28% of employers reported an increase in profit since accreditation, 72% of which attributed this increase at least in part to IiP
- The majority of employers (71%) said that the benefits from IiP were in line with their expectations and in a further 23% of cases, these benefits exceeded employer expectations
- Overall, 79% of accredited employers were very satisfied with IiP, giving a rating of eight or higher on a scale of 1-10. Reducing the cost of the Specialist (10%) and having more direct support from IiP (8%) were noted as areas for improvement by employers.
