Labour Market Information (LMI), Information Communications and Technologies (ICT) and Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)

This publication has been commissioned by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills. It analyses the interaction, roles and potential of three topics: the use and availability of Labour Market Information; the type and extent of ICT usage in relation to careers choices; and the availability, quality and usage of careers Information, Advice and Guidance. This is research that will help inform future UK commission recommendations on these topics.

This publication highlights the importance of supporting people’s interpretation of information such as Labour Market Information – acknowledging that raw data in particular can often be of little use to the average consumer – and it explores practices that are working to overcome these issues. The related role of web literacy among both careers advice practitioners and the public is also highlighted and discussed.
The UK Commission has been charged with identifying effective methods for improving the provision of careers information, advice and guidance and is looking at the role Labour Market Information can play as part of this remit. This publication serves to introduce and analyse some of the key topics relating to this investigation.
