Using and sharing career related labour market information

Support to help people to get into and progress through work, whether provided by a career advisor, Jobcentre Plus staff, or other organisation, should be based on accurate career related labour market information (LMI).

There are multiple sources of different types of LMI available at a national and regional level, some of which provide LMI that is useful for career guidance. However, not everyone delivering guidance feels that they have sufficient career related LMI and this is not always shared between different organisations.

There are two parts to this piece of work:

1. Identify the nature of challenge. This short piece of work has been carried out by one of the UK Commission’s research fellows and investigates the reasons why the existing career related LMI available is not always used and shared effectively.

2. The second part of the project is to identify good practice. We want to identify a number of areas where good practice in using and sharing career related LMI is evident and to identify the reasons for success, alongside the capacity for transferability.
