Sector Skills Assessments
Sector Skills Assessments provide a consistent, comparable and rich understanding of the skills priorities within different sectors of the economy, across the four UK nations. In 2011/12, SSAs were produced by consortia of Sector Skills Councils working together to cover areas of the economy of common interest.
Sector Skills Assessments (SSAs) are key sources of authoritative and focused sectoral labour market intelligence (LMI), designed to inform the development of skills policy across the UK. They combine ‘top-down’ analysis of official data with bottom-up intelligence to provide a consistent, comparable and rich understanding of the skills priorities within different sectors of the economy, across the four UK nations.
In order to identify the skills priorities within different sectors of the economy Sector Skills Assessment reports address the following:
The Sector Skills Assessments are based on:
- Economy-wide data from recognised secondary sources
- Sectoral, sub-sectoral and occupational specific quantitative data generated by SSCs and others (including Government departments and agencies, academics, trade bodies, professional associations, etc)
- Insights from qualitative research undertaken by SSCs and other organisations
SSCs own research and analysis provides valuable insights into specific sectoral, sub-sectoral and occupational issues. This is vital to tell the story behind broader trends and identify key areas that could be of interest to the four national governments.
